Ice Art Alaska
The park is a magical place.
Gigantic structures, made of ice by artists from
all over the world. An international
event that I have enjoyed for the last
five years as a spectator.
One day I plan experience the other side of the event.
These photos are the best of
the ones I took. Ice at night is difficult to capture
on film, but I tried every
year. The first year I took two rolls of my steamy breath!
The next year I learned to
hold my breath, but still my photos were a
disapointment. I have here
the best of this year, but to truely experience the thrill
of seeing these impressive
sculpture you should go and see them for yourself.
I prefere the abstract pieces.
Some are very literal.
Lights are placed behind the ice to create
a fantastic glow.
From some angles the Ice looks metalic instead
of tranceparent.
You may have seen one like this at your friend's
wedding, but was it
8 feet tall and 16 feet wide?
This was my favorite piece this year.
It was a memorial chapel.
This is but one of the impressive archways.
The roof had openings to view the stars from.
The sculptors made walls as smooth as glass,
a wall of little windows.
This is Nevada wearing her ice parka.
This was called "Moon Maden".
I hope you enjoyed seeing the photos as much as I did taking them.
